Why are there so many crooks in government???

When Willie Sutton was asked why he robs banks he responded with
“That’s where the money is.”

Sounds like a stupid answer to a stupid question, but in reality its a
good answer to a good question. And it applies perfectly well to why
there are so many crooks in government.

If you are a crook looking for an ideal place to commit crimes,
getting a job as an elected official or a police officer is probably a
damn good career decision.

First the government is the only place in society where “stealing” is
legal. They don’t call it stealing, but instead use the politically
correct word for theft which is “taxes”.

And of course elected officials are thieves that make small
crooks blush when it comes to the amount of loot they steal.
Small city governments routinely steal millions of dollars from the
serfs they rule over every year. A bank robber gets a measly $2,000
for every bank he robs. So being a government criminal is very
lucrative compared to being a common criminal.

Best of all this kind of stealing is perfectly legal. Crooks who are
elected officials don’t have to worry about going to jail for the
money they steal from their serfs with a form of theft called
taxation.

Yes taking bribes and kick backs is technically illegally, but our
elected officials typically set up their crimes so they look like they
are receiving campaign contributions in exchange for good government,
not bribes for illegal acts.

And of course when they do get caught stealing with their hand in the
cookie jar, they are investigated by their fellow government employees
who frequently turn a blind eye to their crimes, or give them a slap
on the wrist in the rare times they are charged with a crime.

So when a crook gets a job as an elected official they can steal huge
amounts of money with little risk of getting punished.

While being a police officer isn’t as lucrative as a job of being a
career criminal as an elected official it does have some perks career
criminals find attractive.

If you are a sadistic person that enjoys beating up and abusing people, being a cop is an ideal job for you. If you hate gays,
Jews, Mexicans, Blacks or any other minority being a cop is a job
where you can find lots of victims to abuse, with almost no threat of
being punished for your hate crimes.

When a cop is accused of beating or abusing an honest law-abiding
citizen the cops routinely turn the tables on them and accuse the
victim of being the criminal. And since cops investigate their own
crimes this trick works most of the time.

Remember Rodney King? To almost all of us it looked like sadistic racist cops from the LAPD were beating the sh*t out of a helpless Black man.

Of course the cops claimed that Rodney King was a superhuman terrorist who almost killed them and that they had to beat him up to protect themselves. Of course the video tape failed to record any of the superhuman things superhuman Rodney King did to the LAPD to deserve his beating.

Yes the crooked LAPD cops that beat up Rodney King know like most cops, that the bigger lie you tell, the more believable it is.

While career criminals who are politicians can make big bucks compared
to cops, being a crooked cop is still a job where you can make easy
money by turning your head and ignoring victimless crimes like drugs,
prostitution or gambling.

Many cops can and do make good money by helping drug dealers, pimps
and gamblers avoid arrest, either by ignoring their crimes, or by
providing protection to the criminals that commit these victimless
crimes.

So the answer to the question of “why are there so many crooks in
government” can be answered with Willie Sutton’s quote of “That’s
where the money is.”

And in addition of crooks flocking to government jobs because that’s
where the money is, government jobs also offer a very low risk of
being jailed for the crimes that government career criminals commit.

Dear Editor,
I was confused when I found out that  who is the
Director of the Arizona Department of Health Services wants to
consider adding migraine headaches to the list of illnesses
that doctors can prescribe medical marijuana for.
The problem is doctors are already allowed to prescribe
medical marijuana for migraine headaches. Prop 203
says doctors can prescribe medical marijuana for illnesses
that have severe and chronic pain. And as most people know
migraine headaches do cause serve and chronic pain.
I wonder has Will Humble been smoking that medical marijuana
that  him and his boss Governor Jan Brewer seem to want to prevent the
rest of us from using?
I am sure that Will Humble is a smart man and knows perfectly
well that medical marijuana can currently be prescribed for migraine
headaches.
I suspect Will Humble wants to confuse people who
currently have migraine headaches and prevent them from getting
a medical marijuana prescription.
In July I suspect Will Humble will reject migraine headaches and
all the other illnesses he is considering to add to the list of ills
that doctors can prescribe medical marijuana for.  Will Humble
has said he will not approved any uses for medical marijuana
which have not been approved by the DEA. And since the DEA
has made it illegal to do medical research on marijuana, there are
no medical uses for marijuana.
That is a Catch 22 Will Humble himself created. The voters of
Arizona, approved the use of medical marijuana despite the fact
that the fearless drug warriors at the DEA say marijuana has
no medical value whatsoever.
I suspect after he does that he will use that as a lame excuse to
revoke the medical marijuana prescriptions of all the people who
received them for migraine headaches, and order doctors to quit
prescribing medical marijuana for migraine headaches.
Will Humble you should be ashamed of yourself for attempting to
prevent sick people with migraine headaches from using medical
marijuana.
Notes:
1) For all practical purposes the DEA has outlawed
research on medical marijuana. You can petition the DEA and
make a request to do medical research on marijuana, but it is
almost impossible to get the request approved. Well unless
you want to prove marijuana is an evil, evil drug. Then the
DEA might let you do the medical research.
2) I used the word medical marijuana prescriptions in this letter.
The technically correct term is medical marijuana recommendations.
3) I know of a number of people who have received medical marijuana
prescriptions for marijuana in Arizona. I am sure the folks at the
Arizona DHS also know who they are, even though by law they
can’t release their names.

Jan Brewer will do anything to gut the current medical marijuana law.

She might even fire the Director of the Arizona Heath Services who is Will Humble if he doesn’t help her.

I think Will Humble will attempt to say that migraine headaches can’t be added to the list of illnesses that  are treated by medical marijuana, even though by the definitions in Prop 203 migraine headaches are by default, treatable by medical marijuana.
Will Humbles rejects migraine headaches as a legitimate  reason to get a medical marijuana recommendation in July,  I
suspect he will attempt to force doctors  to stop recommending medical marijuana for migraine headaches.  He might even try
to revoke the recommendations for people who already have medical marijuana prescriptions for migraine headaches.
Lets  hope I am wrong on all of that stuff, but I don’t trust our government masters.
My view on the drug war is that ALL drugs should be re-legalized just like they were before the passage of the 1914 Harrison
Narcotics Tax Act which was the beginning of the drug war at the Federal level.  I am sorry if I seemed to be attacking medical marijuana. I wasn’t. If we can use medical marijuana as the starting point to get marijuana re-legalized that is great. And so far it does seem that medical marijuana is helping to sway the public towards legalization of marijuana for recreational uses.
If our royal government masters at the Arizona Department of Health Services tell the media that currently migraine headaches
are not a condition that you can get a medical marijuana recommendation for, many people will read that in the newspapers or  hear it on the news and falsely think that their migraine headaches are not a valid reason they can get a medical marijuana recommendation with. Sadly if that happens Jan Brewer and the drug war tyrants will love that because it means they are preventing people from using
marijuana they are legally allowed to use. Perhaps NORML should put out a press release to the media telling them that under the current rules in Prop 203 migraine headaches ARE an acceptable reason to get a medical marijuana prescription or recommendation.

Letters to the Editor  –  migraine headaches
Sorry Mike!I have to disagree on a lot of this!!First, you are correct. Currently migraine records do qualify patients under chronic pain. If you were at the hearing, or listened on line, the reason for my petition is to specifically list it separate for patients. Currently doctors are inconsistent about issuing recs for migraines, and the education being given out to the public whether you can get a card for migraines is unclear. Many patients suffering migraines do not know they qualify for the card. Also, there are so many that fear rejection and time loss so much they don’t even try to get their cards for migraines!  This is the reason for the petition. I meet a lot of people and listen to a lot of patients. You are correct in stating that yes migraine patients are already getting their cards thru chronic pain. As the author of the submitted petition, I will tell you that it was spelled out in the petition, and said at the hearing that it does qualify as chronic pain. I do not share the same cynicism as you do. I feel that if Will Humble had the intention as you say he does, then he would have never qualified the petition for the hearing in the first place. Why would he want to give the patients a chance to be heard if he was planning something viscous and dirty like you say he will with migraines.Although I do not share your same predictions about the outcome of the hearing, I can be honest and say I will be pleasantly surprised if all 4 qualifying conditions make it on the list! Not because they shouldn’t be on there, but because stupid political games. It would not send the “right message” to the public if they approve all the conditions being heard the first time there is a hearing. I do however have HIGH HOPES that at least 3 or 2 of the four get on there this time!!Also, on a more POSITIVE note, in July we find out about the conditions that made it, and in the end of July it will be open to the public to petition for new conditions again!! Lets get them on there!! Think of how we will grow the condition list if we continue to petition for more and more!! Think about it, If there would have been a hearing to add 20 qualifying conditions to the list, then when you do the political math, we would be adding at least maybe 5-7 to the list this time instead of 1-3. We can do this if we stay positive and focused on taking the opportunities we get to make big things happen!! People need us now!  We gotta make things happen if we want things to happen!!! ;)I say lets get on this now!! I’m outta town, but tomorrow at the meeting, maybe you all decide what Phoenix NORML will be petitioning in July! The New Gilbert NORML can choose one, NORML Arizona, the East Valley, and shout out to Tucson to do the same!!! We can start a NORML family tradition of us each submitting a petition every 6 months for at least one condition. That is already 4 guaranteed petitions being submitted every 6 months, as we grow and grow we will be able to submit more and more!!! Lori J could probably help with a list of conditions AZ patients seem to be needing added to our current qualifying conditions! This is just one thing us advocates can be doing to BE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE!!XO!!
